PRINTED BURLAP by Rust: Vintage Inspired Design

Here's an easy project for left over pieces of burlap....

Simply cut your piece of  burlap to fit over a piece of printer paper,
then tape it to the piece of paper and feed it through your printer...
I was amazed at how well the graphic printed on to the burlap.  My
husband was amazed (actually distraught) that I put burlap through the printer!  Not
sure that I'll be doing that again anytime soon ;)...
Happy day!

AUGUST?!?

How on earth did it get to be August already?  My but time flies....I've been busy with
the usual life stuff and having a great summer...
I have long been a fan of Rachel Ashwell & have
just returned from a trip to California where I got to FINALLY get to one of
her amazing SHABBY COUTURE stores (in Santa Monica).  It was
heaven on earth!
I will post some pictures of
my new Rachel Ashwell shabby chic bedding one day soon!

In the meantime here are some shabby bottles that
 I embellished.
I stuck old earring to the center of these new crosses in order
to vintage-fy them and simply glued them to these old bottles.
Happy summer days!

SALVAGED CUPBOARD DOOR by Rust: Vintage Inspired Design

I fell in love with this old cupboard door when I found it because of its
great colour!  I knew it would be used in a project eventually...
I had these letters (also waiting for a project) but they didn't fit the door....
that problem was solved by using an old frame for the "O".
I absolutely love how this turned out!
Happy day!

MASON JAR PROJECT by Rust: Vintage Inspired Design

Love these simple mason jars mounted on wood.....
Supplies needed:
1. scrap pieces of wood
2. vintage mason jar
3. metal pipe fitting (found in plumbing section of local hardware stores)
I cut a large board salvaged from an abandoned property
into sections, white washed them and

then attached the jars to the boards using the metal pipe fitting.
 Happy day!

GREEK BLUE LOVE by Rust: Vintage Inspired Design

WOW....I am loving this vibrant "greek blue" from
Annie Sloan's line of chalk paint.
It looks stunning mixed with whites, yellows and greens so fits right in to my home decor....
Have to go buy an entire quart of it here so I can paint more!
(I only purchased the sample pot which was enough to paint
three frames and the table you see part of in the picture below).
 Happy day!

NO-SEW BURLAP RUNNERS by Rust: Vintage Inspired Design

I've been working on some easy no-sew burlap runners for the spring
and am loving how they are turning out....
These no-sew runners are perfect to embellish with bits and pieces of
old lace and STUFF.
Another excuse to go shopping for some more vintage linens!
My little owl friend was a fabulous thrift store find (he's actually
a money bank).
Well, lets hope for some sunny days/hours/minutes this weekend.
Happy day!

BURLAP & DOILY LAMP SHADE

Time for another burlap and doily post....
I ripped off the old tattered fabric from a thrift store lamp shade
and wrapped the wire frame (very tightly) with burlap,
which I then glued on.

The doilies and hand made felt flowers were then hand
sewn on....
The lamp base itself is a vintage
crystal decanter that was easily turned in to a lamp with the addition of
a lamp kit made for bottles.

 Happy day!

MARKET UPDATES

Well...first of all I have to tell you how HAPPY I am because
it feels like spring is springing here on the West Coast..!!!
Lots of exciting vintage markets coming up in the Lower
Mainland...what's that saying..."it never rains, but it pours"?!  I've updated my LOCAL
VINTAGE MARKETS page so you can get ALL the details there.
Not sure at this point if RUST: Vintage Inspired Design will be participating
in any of them (markets are sooo much work and time is something I never seem
to have enough of!)...whatever the case... I know all these markets will
definitely be worth a visit!!!

Happy (sunny) day!

PS..Isn't this a pretty piece of lace (an old curtain actually) that I framed in
a thrift store embroidery hoop?  I used some bakers twine and
vintage music paper to make the miniature banner.

VINTAGE DOILY PROJECT

So here's another doily project.....
Simply take a vintage doily and using a staple gun staple it to the
back of a repurposed frame (this one has been painted with
Annie Sloan's pure white that I got here).
So pretty.....(and easy and inexpensive).
Happy day!

INEXPENSIVE WEDDING DECOR

Recently I was asked to help with some wedding decorating.....
the bride wanted a vintage feel to the wedding, but was on a tight budget.

There are so many people who stress (unnecessarily) about wedding costs..
you can easily create a beautiful, personal, one of a kind wedding by using
thrift and dollar store finds.  For example, this entire little vignette cost
less than $5.00 to put together.
Using dollar store artist canvases I created whimsical table markers with vintage
sheet music.  Each table was marked with these music themed canvases.  30 cent
canning jars from the thrift store provided romantic candlelight and thrift store finds (here
a vintage cake topper) were added to each table to provide some fun and whimsy.
Vintage doilies provided beautiful bases for the table centerpieces, and simple grocery store
tulips were used for flowers.
I think if I could chose my career over again I would definitely be a
wedding planner (although I do love nursing)...weddings are so happy and
magical!!
AND THEY DO NOT HAVE TO COST A FORTUNE!!!

Happy day!

MASON JAR PROJECT

After seeing mason jar light projects on Pinterest I just
HAD to try it out for myself....
Turned out it was pretty easy to do.
The trip to IKEA to buy the electrical cord kit was the most difficult part of the project (and only
difficult because I had to refrain from buying everything else I wanted from there!)
My dad picked up this amazing old blue CROWN jar for me.  It came with the
zinc lid and I bought a new top insert from the canning aisle at the grocery store.

All I did was cut a hole in the top insert (easily done with tin snips---yes, I just used
plain old craft scissors--NOT so easy!!).  Then I inserted the
lighting kit as per IKEA's instructions.
I was soooo excited to take pictures of this project that I didn't even wait for
the jar to dry after washing it!  Hence the blobs of water in the pictures!
I've done a bunch up and they are for sale at The PassionateHome  in Langley.

Happy day!

TABLE NUMBERS

Okay....so I'm already off track with the doily, mason jar and burlap projects..
oh well, it's just a little deviation...because....
HOW ADORABLE IS THIS?!?
Vintage toy cars used for table numbers at a wedding (or any event)
are a simple and inexpensive way to add some whimsy and vintage appeal to
your table setting.
Buy some vinyl numbers or number stickers at a craft or
office supply store and simply stick them on your
vehicle of choice.....

They would also make a great conversation piece for your guests and think
of the fun you'll have treasure hunting for them!
Happy day!
